What is The UK Charity for TNBC and where can I get support?

We are a new charity, registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales (no. 1192952) and Scotland (no. SCO53658), dedicated to helping people with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) by providing them with reliable information and advice to people with TNBC, as well as being the ‘voice of TNBC’ to raise awareness and educate and advise the health care system on how to improve the patient experience.

The UK Charity for Triple Negative Breast Cancer was created by a family in memory of a dearly loved wife, mother and grandmother who lived with, and then sadly died, from triple negative breast cancer. They understand only too well what the experience can be like and want to pass on knowledge and information to help people with the same diagnosis.

The idea of a national charity just for people with triple negative breast cancer is based on the  highly successful  Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation based in New Jersey, USA, which was established in 2007 and put triple negative breast cancer ‘on the map’.

We plan to follow their example in the UK, whilst continuing to work cooperatively with, but independently from, the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.

Why have a charity just for Triple Negative Breast Cancer?

There are excellent cancer, and breast cancer, charities in the UK, without which many new treatments currently available for people with breast cancer would not exist. However, they cater for a wide range of cancers and types of breast cancer from prevention to aftercare.

Because triple negative breast cancer is different from other forms of breast cancer, people with triple negative breast cancer deserve specific information , support and access to new treatments. Much of the general advice on the internet does not relate to TNBC and can therefore cause confusion and frustration.

This website provides reliable information provided by Dr Chris Twelves, Professor of Clinical Cancer Pharmacology and Oncology at the University of Leeds, and Director, NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust where he is also a practising breast cancer consultant medical oncologist.

The information we provide is specifically about triple negative breast cancer, and is presented in an easy to understand manner in a single place from where you can access more detailed information.
